John Lennon 's Rotten Tooth Sells for Ungodly Amount of MoneyJohn Lennon's rotten tooth ended up selling for $31,200 at auction today. That's double the reserve price, and enough scratch to keep an American family of six above the poverty line for a year. In other words, this is what an economic stimulus would look like if Harvey Levin and Hannibal Lecter ever teamed up. The Tissot T-Touch Watch - A Groundbreaking Timepiece

We are all becoming accustomed to touch screen technology, whether it be when using our home computer or withdrawing money from an ATM. It was only a matter of time before touch screen technology was used in the making of a watch, and it's no surprise that Tissot have been at the forefront with the Tissot T-Touch watch. Tissot watches have always been at the forefront of timekeeping and the company has a long association with timekeeping at major sporting events. In 2003 Tissot became the official timekeeper for NASCAR, replacing TAG Heuer. Tissot are also the official timekeepers for Grand Prix motorcycle racing as well as official timekeeper of the world championships in MotoGP, Supercross, Fencing, Cycling and Ice Hockey. With this pedigree, it's obvious that Tissot takes timekeeping seriously, constantly pushing the bounds of technology. Of course, Tissot is not alone. Many other watchmakers strive for leadership in a niche area: Rado making the World's hardest watc...

Chris Cornell Will Cover John Lennon, Led Zep on 'Songbook' LP

Image
That new Soundgarden album isn't arriving just yet, but the Seattle rockers' frontman has an LP of his own on the way later this year. Chris Cornell will release a new album titled Songbook on November 21 that consists of acoustic performances from his ongoing solo tour. The track list, which you can check out below, features songs from Cornell's previous groups — Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog — along with covers of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" and John Lennon 's "Imagine." As for acoustic shows, Cornell told SPIN earlier this year, "I think Johnny Cash was quoted as saying, 'It's the scariest thing you could do as a musician.' " Here's Cornell on The Late Show With David Letterman performing "The Keeper," the track he wrote for Mark Forster's Machine Gun Preacher, which closes the new record. Also, Stereogum tracked down the pr...

New Music Movies: John Lennon and Tupac

Image
John Lennon / Tupac John Lennon : Under the direction of famed British artist Sam Taylor-Wood, Nowhere Boy tells the story of Lennon's childhood in Liverpool. The script is penned by Matt Greenhalgh, who also wrote the script for Control, the story of late Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. Production is already underway on the feature, which stars Aaron Johnson (The Illusionist) as the young Beatle, and Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) as his Aunt Mimi, who played a big part in raising him. The Weinstein Co. has acquired the rights to the film, so expect a heavy Oscar campaign. [Via Billboard.com] Marianne Faithfull: Considering the singer's life story -- which includes a five-year romance with Mick Jagger, a battle with heroin addiction, time spent living on the streets, and a suicide attempt -- the only question is how a film about Marianne Faithfull's life hasn't been made yet. Faithfull published her a...

John Winston Lennon

John Winston Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English musician and singer-songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. Along with fellow Beatle Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. Born and raised in Liverpool, John Lennon became involved as a teenager in the skiffle craze; his first band, The Quarrymen, evolved into The Beatles in 1960. As the group disintegrated towards the end of the decade, Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Lennon revealed a rebellious nature, and biting wit, in his music, on film, in books, and at press conferences and interviews. He was controversial...

John Lennon Sculpture Unveiled in San José, Costa Rica

Image
Ha! Just one month after I posted about how The Beatles are taking Cuba by storm (see my blog post: “Cuba discovers The Beatles… so move over Che!”), Costa Rica is following suit. And not just following suit. San José’s city fathers have copied Havana by commissioning Cuban artist José Ramón Villa to create a sculpture of John Lennon , which was unveiled last Friday across from the Iglesia de la Soledad church, on Plaza Artigas (Calle 9 & Ave. 4). San José Mayor Johnny Araya unveiled the $14,000 statute—a carbon-copy of Ramón Villa’s original, which occupies the southeast corner of Parque Lennon , in Havana, Cuba. The life-size bronze figure shows Lennon cross-legged, left-arm casually draped over a bench, and the inscription “Imagine all the people living life in peace” at his feet. Lennon remains as controversial in death as in life. Although hundreds of fans flashing peace signs gathered to celebrate the statue’s unveiling (a fitting tribute to a peace-loving n...

the full transcript of the Yoko Ono interview

Image
I nterview: Everett True Photo collage: Yoko Ono This interview was transcribed by an intern at Careless Talk Costs Lives -  the awesome Grace Fox, probably –  upon my return from New York (where I was actually researching my Ramones book: I believe my accommodation arrangements were split between Kid Millions from Oneida’s floor – I met him by throwing up into his bin, fortunately he turned out to be a forgiving chap – and a glitzy NYC hotel paid for by Parlophone). So some of the sentences and song references might not make any sense. I would have tided them up when I came to write the feature. Interesting to note I took out the only Beatles reference from the final article (although not in an abridged version I later wrote for great New York magazine BB Gun ). Incidentally, that opening question I throw Yoko’s way … it really did use to be the only question I had prepared for interviews. Everything else that follows is a result of th...
