Hard Day's Night? Christopher Eccleston pictured slumped in doorway (after taking role of John Lennon role for new BBC drama)
Slumped in a doorway outside a Soho bar, it looks like John Lennon star Christopher Eccleston has had a Hard Day's Night.
The actor, who is set to play the Beatle in a new BBC drama, was spotted last night enjoying an evening out at London's Groucho club.
But as he sat huddled on the floor outside, chatting on the phone, he looked like he should have been at home sleeping like a log instead.
Former Time Lord Eccleston, 45, has been working like a dog of late, filming a new drama for BBC4, Lennon Naked.
It is due to air in the next few months and will see the the ex Doctor Who actor play the musical legend from his time in the Beatles through to his later years.
In a newly released publicity shot, he is even seen trussed up in a replica white suit worn by Lennon in 1968 at an art gallery with wife Yoko Ono.
Meanwhile it has emerged that cash-strapped BBC bosses are being forced to axe a raft of top shows so they can afford to make new ones, including Lennon Naked.
Reports claim popular programmes under threat include New Tricks, Criminal Justice, Spooks and Hustle.
But insiders says the likes of Holby City - starring Patsy Kensit - and Waterloo Road - are safe from the chop.
The BBC's controller of drama told the Daily Star: 'It's a huge risk but it's the only way to change what was mainstream.'
