Who is your favorite Beatle? For fans of John Lennon

In his solo career, John became an activist for peace.
If your favorite Beatle is John Lennon, you are a fan of the rock’n’roller with a dark side who turned into a peace-loving humanitarian.
I asked dozens of people I know to tell me who their favorite Beatle is and why.

DISCLAIMER: These opinions are solely those of my own and of those that I spoke with. Feel free to disagree.
John Lennon is the political rocker who died way to early. We have no way of knowing what his life and career would have been if he hadn’t been taken from us. But I would like to believe, and my brother gets credit for this one, that John would have served the world as a great humanitarian (sort of like Bono but in his own amazing way) and as a voice for those who have no voice. I’d like to believe that the world would have been a different place if John Lennon could have lived longer.

John is also remembered as the most political and socially active, especially in the ten years of his solo career. 12-year-old guitarist of Oakland based band Poison Apple Pie Jasmine, is inspired by his activism as well as his musicianship. She also thinks he’s the funniest with quotes like this famous one at a Royal Variety Performance in London in 1962 that was attended by members of the Royal Family (watch video below):
"For our last number, I'd like to ask your help. The people in the cheaper seats clap your hands. And the rest of you, just rattle your jewelry.”
Even though John and Paul co-wrote most of their songs together, John had the reputation of writing the more though-provoking, lyric driven songs. He was seen as the smart one right from the get-go. And as we approach his 70th birthday (on October 9th. 2010) we will continue to miss his living presence in the world.
