History of Tissot Watches

Image
Tissot, a Swiss watch company, was established in the year 1853. Charles-Félicien Tissot with his son Charles-Emile set the foundation of this prominent business in the city of Le Locle. Buoyed by an extremely pioneering spirit and a forceful drive for mechanical craft, these two initiators brought in to the watchmaker's trade a sturdy and skilled company.

True Talent Cannot Be Silenced

Image
by David R. Hoffman, Legal Editor of Pravda.Ru, January 22, 2004 It was a moment that rarely occurs in this unpredictable journey called life, a moment locked in time, a moment to make one realize that sometimes a voice cannot be silenced, even by death. I do not recall what department store I was in, but I remember the bland "shopping" music playing over the loudspeakers, endeavoring to induce shoppers into buying products they did not need with money they did not have. Suddenly, in this milieu of vapid consumerism, the mundane music had been replaced by an unforgettable voice, which drifted softly, almost hypnotically, throughout the store. I remember smiling at first, because the song this voice was singing seemed curiously out of place. &qu

Listen to Beautiful Boy by John Lennon

Image
There are plenty of excellent reasons to approach Into the Sun (Grand Royal/Capitol), the debut album by Sean Lennon, with a certain degree of wariness or skepticism. For starters, there's Matthew Nelson, Gunnar Nelson, Jason Bonham, and the Wilson-Phillips gals, who loosely constituted the first disappointing wave of rock progeny who attempted to follow in their famous parents' footsteps. Then there's Julian Lennon, Sean's older half-brother, whose rather cheap bid for pop stardom in the mid '80s (remembe

Yoko Ono left shaken by intruder at the building where John Lennon was shot

Image
Security breach: John Lennon 's widow Yoko Ono was scared by a Beatles fan as she visited the building where her husband died 30 years ago Yoko Ono called for help after running into a Beatles fan acting suspiciously inside the famous Dakota building where John Lennon was shot dead 30 years ago. Ono was visiting the apartment to pay her respects when the Korean man happened to get into the same elevator as her. His behaviour alarmed her so much that she notified the building's concierge who called the police immediately. According to police, tourist Sungno Kim, 24, had entered using a service entrance before going up to the roof via a freight elevator to take pictures even though signs clearly stated 'no trespass'. When he took the regular elevator back down again the elevator happened to open on Ono's floor and she got it. 'The elevator stopped on her floor. She got in. There was no interaction. It was purely coincidental,' a source said. It

Hard Day's Night? Christopher Eccleston pictured slumped in doorway (after taking role of John Lennon role for new BBC drama)

Image
Slumped in a doorway outside a Soho bar, it looks like John Lennon star Christopher Eccleston has had a Hard Day's Night. The actor, who is set to play the Beatle in a new BBC drama, was spotted last night enjoying an evening out at London's Groucho club. But as he sat huddled on the floor outside, chatting on the phone, he looked like he should have been at home sleeping like a log instead. On the road with..........Liverpool: It's not quite Beatlemania but John Lennon Airport had a busy day and Torres is mobbed in Madrid

Sportsmail online's series 'On The Road With...' brings you the behind-the-scenes accounts of following British teams on their European adventures this season. Today's comes from John Edwards (right), who is with have already been to Madrid in the Champions League this season, but this time it is the real deal - with an upper case 'r'. The scenes at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport yesterday confirmed as much, as I parked up and made for the check-in desk for the 10.20am flight to the Spanish capital. Imagine, to quote the erstwhile Beatle who gave his name to what was once plain, rundown Speke Airport but has since been transformed into a state-of-the-art gateway to a multitude of foreign destinations. Any other European trip, and the players, officials, VIPs and humble hacks tend to have the place almost to themselves for the official Liverpool FC trip. We are used to strolling up to the departure desk at around eight o'clock, taking no

School results are no predictor of future success, new research finds - just look at John Lennon, Winston Churchill or Sir Richard

Image
John Lennon left school without any qualifications, Damien Hirst did marginally better and was awarded an E for his art A-Level whilst Bill Gates dropped out of college on his way to becoming the world's richest man. They are hardly shining examples of those who achieved all they did because of success in the classroom. But according to intriguing new research, school tests are by no means a measure of true ability - nor can they be used as a tool to predict future success or abject failure. John Lennon , left, was successful without any school qualification, while artist Damien Hirst, right, received an E for his art A-Level The study, by the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors (CIEA), found that as many as 77 per cent of people believe that formal examinations fail to reflect their true intelligence. Sour grapes? Perhaps, but there are those who have successfully bucked the trend. They include Gordon Ramsay,  Ralph Lauren (who quit college to sel

John Lennon's 'still dangerous' killer denied parole for fifth time

john lennon murderer was denied parole for a fifth time last night. Mark Chapman will remain in a U.S. prison for at least two more years after a parole board ruled that he remains a threat to the public. Chapman, 53, has been in prison for 27 years since pleading guilty to gunning down the former Beatle on a New York sidewalk in 1980. Mark David Chapman, left, pictured in 1975, shot John Lennon dead in 1980 He fired five shots outside Lennon's Manhattan apartment, hitting the 40-year-old singer four times in front of his wife, Yoko Ono. The former maintenance man from Hawaii was given a maximum life sentence but became eligible for parole in 2000.   The parole board said that although Chapman has had a clean disciplinary record since 1994, his release 'would not be in the best interest of the community'. Pictured: Kristin Scott Thomas transforms into John Lennon's Aunt Mimi for latest role

Looking businesslike in black, and with a dash of red lipstick, this is Kristin Scott Thomas as John Lennon's aunt Mimi. The 48-year-old actress, best known for her roles as upper class ladies in films such as The English Patient, plays the formidable Liverpudlian who famously raised the young Beatle after his mother gave him up when he was five. Miss Scott Thomas is pictured on the set of the film Nowhere Boy in Liverpool with Aaron Johnson, 18, who plays Lennon. Relative roles: Kristin Scott Thomas as Aunt Mimi with Aaron Johnson playing John Lennon, and below, their real counterparts The movie, which also stars Anne-Marie Duff as Lennon's mother Julia, traces the early days of the singer's rise to stardom in The Quarrymen. Director Sam Taylor-Wood said: 'Mimi was strict and very proper, but she knew how to enjoy a joke, and Julia was the sister who was what today we'd call laid back. 'She was a bit bohemian and didn't take things as

'Must wait for cable guy': The tedious 'to do' list showing the everyday nature of John Lennon's life goes up for auction

Image
He penned some of the best-loved lyrics and memorable melodies of the 20th century. And since his shock death at the hands of an assassin 31 years ago, the words and wisdom of former Beatle  John Lennon have taken on a major significance and meaning for many fans. But a new document suggests that one of the most famous musicians in the world wasn't always focused on campaigning for world peace, writing another classic protest song or pushing the boundaries of artistic expression with wife Yoko Ono. Reminder: The list of mundane chores written by John Lennon For a single sheet of lined paper reveals that Lennon, like most of us, had to put up with the mundanities of everyday life - and that meant jotting down the occasional 'to do' list.     The sheet of paper, which is expected to fetch more than £3,000 when it goes up for auction this week, lists 11 chores that Lennon wrote down. And the priority for the singer when the list was compiled was...

Lennon's adultery pact: When John left Yoko for a year of reckless debauchery he told her 'you must take a lover too'

Image
During their first four years together as a couple,  John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent virtually every minute of every day together. Though they continued to exhilarate each other on a creative level, their physical relationship inevitably lost some of its initial blaze. John's sexual drive remained as intense as ever, but Yoko was finding herself less able, or inclined, to deal with it. She was an increasingly unresponsive lover and John taunted her that she was like a Victorian wife  -  'you just lie there and think of England'. More than friends:  John Lennon with his assistant May Pang at the end of the Seventies They often discussed the raging sexual hunger that had been so easy to indulge when he was on the road with The Beatles. He had expected it to go away when he hooked up with Yoko, but it hadn't. 'I don't understand it,' he would tell her. 'I'm madly in love with you, but why do I still keep looking at girls in the stre
