She also give $1,500 each month to charity.
Deschanel and her musician husband Ben Gibbard announced their shocking split two months ago, and now the couple has made it official and filed for divorce.
According to court documents, the actress filed for divorce from the Death Cab for Cutie singer on December 27, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple were married for two years and Deschanel's publicist has said that the split was 'amicable'.
She was photographed shopping in Beverly Hills just four days before filing the papaers, looking happy and festive in a red winter coat.
Deschanel declined to comment on the cause of the break-up in an interview with People magazine, but told them: 'We're friendly, It's all fine.'
The two tied the knot near Seattle, Washington in September of 2009 and there have been no reports of disharmony in their marriage or the involvement of a third party.
Gibbard, the frontman for indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie, recently gushed over his soon-to-be-ex in New York magazine.
'I'd seen her in movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful,' the 35-year-old said.
When he was introduced to Deschanel, who fronts the band She and Him, by their mutual music manager three years ago, it was love at first sight.
'I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me,' he said.
Ironically, the New Girl star has previously expressed displeasure at being separated from her husband.

She told iVillage that being away from Gibbard while he was on tour was 'definitely hard.'
She also somewhat ironically added that it takes a lot of work to make a marriage last.
'You can't expect to make no effort. You still have to make the effort and be kind and understanding. It sort of just solidifies your commitment.'

At least the actress isn't letting her split get her down and she's still tweeting up a storm, telling her fans to watch her new show.
She also attended Kate Hudson's Halloween party on Friday night in Pacific Palisades, California, with a bevy of girlfriends.
Gibbard has not touched his Twitter account since October 30th. The last time he sent a message to his wife was September 11th, when he re-tweeted Deschanel's New York magazine cover story and wrote: 'Check out this amazing article about my lovely wife!'
