In Peter Brown's book, "The Love You Make. An Insider's Story of The Beatles", which is very good on John and Yoko's hermetic relationship, their drug use, and their bizarre lifestyle arrangements. His description of the prolonged periods Lennon spends spaced out in the sunroom at Weybridge linger long in the mind: "At Kenwood, on a shelf in the sunroom, sat a white, pharmaceutical mortar and pestle with which he mixed any combination of speed, barbituates, and psychedelics. Whenever he felt himself coming down from his mind-bending heights, he would lick a finger, take a swipe at the ingredients in the mortar, and suck the bitter film into his mouth."

I went to Beijing in 2008 to do a 4 year bachelor’s degree in “Chinese Language and Culture.” Or “Chinese business.” Or… Just “Chinese.” Depends who you ask. I have a few reasons that you SHOULDN’T do it, and a few reasons that you SHOULD. Whether or not you DO depends alot on your goals. Here goes: DON’T GET YOUR DEGREE IN CHINA Reason 1: The quality of education is a toss-up. My university initially told me that I’d do 2 years of intensive language studies, then I’d pick a major, and I’d spend my latter two years studying with the Chinese students. How immersive! Yeah except that’s not what happened. I never got the opportunity to select a major, I just had 4 years of language study. John Lennon John Lennon was the Beatles' most committed rock & roller, their social conscience, and their slyest verbal wit. After the group's breakup, he and his second wife, Yoko Ono, carried on intertwined solo careers. Ono's early albums presaged the elastic, screechy vocal style of late-'70s new wavers like the B-52's and Lene Lovich. L7 and Babes in Toyland have also been influenced by and benefited from Ono's attitudinal, emotionally trailblazing work. Lennon strove to break taboos and to be ruthlessly, publicly honest. When he was murdered on December 8, 1980, he and Ono seemed on the verge of a new, more optimistic phase.
